Movement Finishing
Separate decorative vocabulary from the actual quality, materials and regulation of a movement.
An exhibition back invites you to look beyond the dial. Finishing changes how the plates, bridges and rotor catch light, but visible decoration is only one part of a movement's construction.
Stripes and overlapping circles
Geneva stripes form repeated bands across a surface. Perlage uses overlapping circular marks, often on plates or bridges. Patek Philippe describes the latter as a controlled sequence made with a rotating abrasive tool; its finishing documentation also distinguishes striped bridge surfaces from circular-grained areas. Those references explain the techniques. They do not imply that every striped movement is hand-finished or meets the same maker's standards.
Look beyond decoration
A plain surface is not evidence of poor regulation. Equally, a bright rotor or elaborate engraving does not certify accuracy. In a real watch, finishing, bearing condition, lubrication, assembly and adjustment each deserve their own assessment.
Brass, gold-toned and rhodium-toned treatments also describe different visual directions. Colour alone cannot tell you whether a rotor is solid precious metal, plated, coated or made from a different alloy.
In the atelier
Movement decoration offers Geneva stripes, Perlage and Plain on the visible mechanical study. Rotor finish appears only for an automatic with an exhibition back. The gold option adds an engraved appearance; it is not a statement of purity, plating thickness or rotor weight.
Try Plain first to read the architecture, then switch the decoration without changing the rest of the watch. These controls change the illustration, not its rate, reserve or a manufacturing specification. A solid caseback hides the mechanism and presents the build's inscription instead.

The preview treats the watch's apparent orientation as a virtual watch held in front of you, with illustrative gravity, inertia and damping. It is not a calibrated model of bearings, winding efficiency or wrist motion, and the interaction does not charge a mainspring or change the displayed reserve.
The rotor stays still until you drag, and resetting a view restores its repeatable presentation pose. With reduced motion enabled, it remains static while you can still turn the watch. Hand-wound and quartz compositions have no automatic rotor.
